Spring Sports Update
EMMA DAVIS wins her 4th State Championship!
Emma Davis finished her career as the greatest tennis player in Massachusetts history by winning her 4th MIAA Girls Singles Individual Title with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Allison McCann of Amherst.
Emma finished with a career record of 84-0 and has never lost a set in high school tennis. In the 50 year history of the State Tournament no player before Emma has one three titles let alone four.
Beyond her outstanding accomplishments as a competitor, Emma displayed the type of sportsmanship that defines her as a player and person in the State Championship Final when her opponent had to take a medical time out in the second set for leg cramps. Emma reached into her bag and walked across the court to give her opponent her sports drink that helps with cramping to help her opponent continue in the match. It was one of the best displays of true sportsmanship I have seen in my 15 years as the AD at Cohasset.
We all wish her the best of luck in the National US Open National Playoff Championship in August (she won the New England Sectional Qualifier last week) and as she continues her tennis career at Wake Forest University in the fall.
Below are the Boston Herald and Boston Globe article on the match:
