Professional Development – Dr. Jerry Goldberg, a consultant with Teachers 21, Inc. has been working with our middle school faculty on Response To Intervention (RTI). “The RTI process is a multi-step approach to providing services and interventions to students who struggle with learning at increasing levels of intensity. The progress students make at each stage of intervention is closely monitored. Results of this monitoring are used to make decisions about the need for further research-based instruction and/or intervention in general education, in special education, or both.” - National Center for Learning Disabilities, 2006. Dr. Goldberg returns to do more training with our middle school staff on 12/14/11.

More PD - Our middle-high school staff is working on curriculum with Cohasset Public School’s Director of Curriculum and Professional Development, Louise Demas. They are focusing on the Common Core as it relates to vertical alignment (grade level sequencing) and school-wide literacy.

School Accreditation – Our School’s application for its decennial accreditation has been processed and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) has announced that they will be visiting Cohasset Middle-High School on April 28, 2013 – May 1, 2013. In preparation for the visit, members of Cohasset High School’s Steering Committee will be leading our school through an extensive self-study. This self-study process has already begun and will continue until the visit. Our school will be committing both faculty meeting time as well as release-day time to the self study process. George Edwards, Associate Director of NEASC’s Commission on Public Secondary Schools will be addressing our staff on the December 13th faculty meeting.

School safety drills are held regularly throughout the school year. We are planning another one next week. Please do not necessarily be alarmed if you see police and fire department vehicles at the school. We do a lot of work together and they are a regular presence on our campus.

Student drop off and pick up - Over the past few years we have had several meetings with the Cohasset Police Dept. to review the safest ways drop off and pick up students at the school. Students are regularly reminded via morning announcements that there are two locations for the safe drop off and pick of students: 1) on the east side of the building (Central Office parking lot across from Alumni field concession stand) and 2) in front of the middle school.  Please do not drop off students in front of the high school at the top of the main driveway.

NCLB Report Card
October 28, 2011

Dear Parent or Guardian:

We are pleased to attach the link to our school “report card” for the current year. It contains important information about teacher qualifications, student achievement on Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) tests, and the progress we are making toward helping all students become proficient in English language arts and mathematics. The information in the report card is divided into three parts:
Part I: Teacher Qualifications
Part II: Student Achievement
Pat III: School Accountability

Part I provides information about the qualifications of the teachers in our individual schools and district. Part II summarizes how our school’s students scored in English language arts and mathematics in the last two years of MCAS examinations. Part III indicates whether or not our school is on target to meet the goal of all students reaching proficiency in English language arts and mathematics by 2014, a fundamental goal of the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). In accordance with the NCLB, schools that do not make sufficient progress toward this goal are identified for ‘improvement’, ‘corrective action’, or ‘restructuring’.

The web address from which you can access our NCLB Report Card is:

If you would like to receive a paper copy of the NCLB Report Card, please contact my office to make that request.

We are happy to help you if you have further questions about the document. Please feel free to call me if I can be of additional assistance to you.

Sincerely,

Michael Gill
Principal
