School Safety & Talking to Children about Violence

Dear Cohasset Families,

As the hours pass I am at a loss for words about the tragedy of our neighbors in Newtown, Connecticut.  This heinous crime resulted in the loss of life among innocent children and adults.  We do not want our children to be afraid to come to school.  They should feel they are safe when learning under our roof.  We take school safety and security very seriously.  Unfortunately, we can never guarantee that nothing could ever happen in our schools or community but we can be vigilant about creating a safe environment.  We have plans in place for emergency situations and they are reviewed during the school year.  Additionally, we remain in regular communication with the police to ensure we we are doing everything possible to maintain a safety in the schools.

On Monday the principals and other key personnel will gather to discuss how to help our students if concerns or anxiety should arise.  We will work in conjunction with the Cohasset Police reviewing our safety plans and making any necessary changes.  The central administration will remain in close contact with the principals and offer assistance when necessary.  Please feel free to reach out to your student's principal if questions or concerns should arise.  Finally, I have included an additional document from the National Association of School Psychologists titled "Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers".  I hope you find it as helpful as I did.

This weekend take time to hug your children and remind them they are loved.  I will be available by e-mail this weekend if you should have any concerns or questions.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Barbara J. Cataldo

Homeopathy and Biofeedback, an Alternative Treatment for Children
Cohasset SEPAC is pleased to host Diane Scott with Quantum Homeopathics. Ms. Scott will speak on Homeopathy and Biofeedback for the health and healing of Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal infections (PANDAS), Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Her presentation will be held at Paul Pratt Library on Tuesday, May 7th at 7PM-8:30PM.

Homeopathy is the leading alternative medicine in Europe, and is becoming a popular health care choice in the US. An increasing number of people now turn to Homeopathy as a safe, effective, and gentle holistic system of medicine suitable for all ages, from babyhood to old age. It treats the whole person, on the mental, emotional and physical level, rather than treating the disease alone.

Diane will also speak on Quantum Biofeedback. Biofeedback is a safe non invasive technique that identifies stress in the body and teaches the patient to induce relaxation.  It helps the child develop strategies to control anxiety and stress before other symptoms have a chance to develop. Diane's intention is to guide and educate her clients to make better choices and lifestyle changes that improve their health and wellness by creating a customized personal health plan.  Stress comes at us from a vast number of sources each day: social pressures, emotional disturbances, trauma and injury. Biofeedback allows one to get to the heart of which stressors are most reactive for you.

Diane Scott is a certified Classical Homeopath and Biofeedback Specialist. She has been an Integrative Holistic practitioner for the past 14 years combining the gentle healing art of Homeopathy with state of the art Quantum Biofeedback Technology.  Diane Scott received her BS degrees (in both Microbiology and Medical Technology) as well as her BTech (Homeopathy) from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa.  She completed both the Professional Course as well as the two year Post Graduate Clinical Course at Teleosis School of Homeopathy, she is a board certified with both the Council for Homeopath Certification(CHC) as well as the National Board of Neuropathy and Biofeedback. Diane serves on the committee of Examination Reviewers of the Council for Homeopathic Certification, which is the national organization that certifies health professionals in classical homeopathy. Diane is affiliated with the National Center for Homeopathy and has founded two NCH affiliated Study Groups in Princeton and Hingham.
